Salads growers

Individually strong, yet committed to collaborating on key aspects of the horticulture business – this is how our salads growers work. The 800 hectares under cultivation are divided into 445 ha of sweet peppers, 344 ha of tomatoes and 12 ha of cucumbers. Of the total of 344 hectares of tomatoes, 270 ha are artificially lit for year-round cultivation. Continuous product availability is also made possible through cultivation projects abroad.

Cultivate salads with guts
Our growers have a number of essential characteristics in common: they are leaders in the market, they are innovative, and their production techniques are very sustainable. But they also all have something else in common that sets them apart: as we like to say, they ‘grow with gusto’. A good example of this is their development of new cultivation areas – the Agriport A7 project at the tip of Noord-Holland, for example, in which our growers have been involved from the start. Agriport A7 is the site of a development project for large-scale greenhouse and open-field crop cultivation. The manner in which large-scale production of fresh vegetables, processing, and logistics have been clustered at Agriport A7 has resulted in its being considered the most modern agro-park in the world. Various growers are also closely involved in cultivation projects abroad, including in Southern Europe and North Africa.

Our cucumber growers

The Harvest House cucumber growers account for a significant share of the total area used for the cultivation of salads. They have a passion for cucumber cultivation and have great professional expertise. Providing everyone with the freshest and tastiest cucumbers is what drives them.

They are also always looking for something with which to distinguish themselves within the generic cucumber market. This has given rise to various interesting product innovations, such as the Q & Me cucumber. This cucumber is not only delicious but is also marketed in a way that makes it recognizable for the consumer. The development of mini cucumbers and heart-shaped cucumbers also shows the innovative capacities of the Harvest House salads growers.

Our sweet pepper growers

With over 53 affiliated pepper growers and 445 hectares under cultivation, Harvest House is the Netherlands’ largest sweet pepper supplier. Cooperation is key for our sweet pepper growers, so they are increasingly banding together within Harvest House to look at potential improvements and new developments. Among these initiatives are pilot programmes to experiment with growing sweet peppers under artificial lighting – year-round pepper cultivation is getting closer to becoming a reality!

Our tomato growers

Our 10 tomato growers are among the largest and most innovative growers in the world. Together they grow more than 15 different types of tomatoes on 344 ha, including 270 ha with artificial light. These growers draw their strength from cooperation. After all, Harvest House not counts the Netherlands’ largest tomato growers among its members but also smaller businesses that focus on a speciality within the range.

Year-round cultivation
The majority of our tomato growers use supplemental lighting.
This makes it possible for them to supply Harvest House with product year round, enabling us to guarantee a steady supply to our customers.

Working together
Harvest House salads growers strengthen their market position by working together on various levels. For instance, the packaging station Greenpack was set up by a number of our progressive-thinking tomato growers. Greenpack is one of Europe’s largest and most innovative packaging and distribution centres for salads.
